Description

1933 Ford Model 40 all steel roadster named “The Spirit of El Mirage”. One spectacular award-winning build done to look like it could have been completely 1955-1957 era and named after the El Mirage Salt flats. Yes, it’s all Henry Ford steel with lots of customization. Under the hood is a 1955 Buick 322 Nail-head V8 with extensive show chrome, Offenhauser intake and valve covers with dual quad carbs.  Most every piece of the engine other than the heads and block are polished aluminum or show chrome. Under the car is a 5” dropped Magnum tube front axle show chromed by Cambridge Custom Chrome. Right now, there’s a Flaming river Vega steering box. There are chromed shocks and springs front and rear with transvers traditional springs front and rear also chromed. On the front axle are SoCal custom imitation Buick finned aluminum brake drum kit that hide aluminum 4-piston calipers and rotors. The driveshaft, yoke and cross members under the car are also chromed. There’s a polished finned aluminum rear end cover on an 8.8 Ford rear end. Behind that nail head lies a freshly rebuilt TH-350 with shift kit and 2800 stall converter. Chrome re-pop 1940’s Ford wheels with ’42 Ford hubcaps wear brand new Coker Firestone Gum Dipper rubber on each corner. On top is a custom-made convertible top in a ‘33/’34 style that functions properly and has decent head room, a zip out rear window, custom boot cover, hold downs and snap-on side curtains just in case of cold or rain. The top including framework cost over 7000$ alone to build. There’s extensive custom louver work on the hood and trunk lid. The car features custom made 50’s nerf bumpers front and rear with show quality chrome and a re-chromed 1957 Dominion license plate light originally made in Toronto ON. Out front you’ll find a pair of hard bubble headlight covers that are so rare, they’re the only pair known to exist from the company that stopped making them in 1959. When the windshield was laid back for a real “hot rod” look, extensive custom work was required to fill the gap properly below the glass. The grill is a REAL 1933 Ford grill that’s been re-chromed. It’s worth thousands on its own! Out back are 1950 Pontiac taillights now with LED bulbs The interior is just as nice as the rest with custom leather tuck and roll upholstery, cut down 1951 Mercury door panels and 1800’s Amish horse harness diamonds. There’s SoCal gauges along with new old stock 1957 Smiths Stainless steel cup tachometer mounted on a polished stainless ’56 F100 replica steering column.  1950’s Laminated Plexi tear drop shaped switch knobs and transmission shifter knob are matching. That’s on top of a Lokar nostalgia shifter and E-brake handle. All gauges work and there’s a Vintage Air heater installed behind the rear of the seats. Every aspect of this car was truly thought about from the perspective of building a hot rod like would have been done in the mid to late 50’s. To top it all off, the Spirit of El Mirage won best street rod in the 2024 Granby international car show in Quebec (largest show in Canada), as well as best street rod engine, first time shown, and runner up in a class of 15 top builds in the 2025 Toronto Motorama car show. The car is incredible from every angle, a clearly was a huge investment by the builder. It’s now available for a fraction of the cost to put it together. Don’t miss an opportunity to own a truly one-of-a-kind hot rod! There’s just over 300 miles on the car since it's completion.
