Description

1956 Mercury M-500 Cab Over Engine Resto-mod Custom. This is one of the nicest (and largest) vehicles in the showroom and has just been finished by a renowned local builder from Martensville Sask. Much of this vehicle is custom fabricated but done to such perfection it all appears it could have left the factory in 1956 this way! In 2002 the truck was purchased in Prince Albert and at one time was a garbage truck in the town of Biggar. Restoration began in the fall of ’02 and was completed to a point but sat for 12 years before work restarted in 2012. In the last 12 years, 4 generations of one family poured their hard work, time and dedication into the completion of the truck in 2024. Absolutely every aspect of the truck has been reworked or restored. Most of the metal on the cab is factory original, apart from the front fenders being grafted from a 1-ton and narrowed by 4”. The rear fenders were widened by 6”. The entire rear of the truck – box, lifting assembly, rear fenders and rear deck are completely custom fabricated from scratch. The chrome is all original, with beautiful replating. Floors in the cab were replaced and customized to fit the new engine “doghouse” All glass is brand new. The custom body and box sit on a 2006 Ford E-350 dually chassis with rebuilt twin I-beam suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes, Ford Posi-traction diff with 4:10 gears and Ford Factory aluminum rims with new Michelin rubber. Under the hood is a 2005 GM 6.0-liter LS V8 with Fitech fuel injection and a 4L80 4-speed automatic transmission behind it. The attention to detail in the build, incredible customization and overall finish of the truck is second to none and could easily be shown at the most prestigious custom car shows anywhere in North America. The rear box features a custom metal and wood deck on an electric actuator. Inside the box you’ll find a completely box lined area in matching red paint. A Goose neck trailer hitch/ball pokes perfectly through a matching opening in the deck boards. The interior of the truck is just as nice with custom work by Bucky Borrowman of Saskatoon on the seats and door panels. The dash now features a Classic Instruments cluster which matches the era of the truck perfectly but displays all information and a tachometer. On the odometer right now is just 118 miles since the build was completed. A chrome I-did-it tilt column and Banjo wheel complete the look. Under the dash hangs the Vintage A/C controls and vents to keep you cool on hot days along with power windows. An Out of Sight Sound System is hidden somewhere in the truck and connects via Bluetooth for great sounding tunes. The view from the cab is commanding sitting so high up. You feel like the king of the road driving this thing (and pretty much are). Thanks to extensive work, the controls and the way the truck drives feels very modern. This could go anywhere, tow anything and win awards at any car show. One-of-a-kind truck that needs to be seen in person to appreciate its true excellence.
