Description

1966 Chevrolet Impala 2-dr Hardtop Low-rider Custom. This is once incredible machine with incredible paint, a mean look, lots of custom work and a powertrain that pushes this barge up to 90 mph way faster than any car this size ought to move! Most of the restoration, fabrication and modifications were completed on this car in 2012-2013 at Thane’s Big T Auto repair in Saskatoon and the bills total $52,500!! That’s also 2012 dollars, imagine the cost to do all the work today!?!  Let’s start under the hood. Thank goodness there’s lots of room to swallow up the 502 V8 that’s now nestled between the fenders! The big block was rebuilt in 2012 and at the time the cylinders were bored and honed .030 over, a new thumper series cam went in, a new stroker rotation assembly was fitted and new heads were installed. The valve terrain is now roller lifters. A march pulley system was added to the front of the engine along with Hedman headers. On top is a high rise intake and Holley Performance 750 cfm carb. Everything else on the engine is virtually new or replaced at the same time and full receipts for all the work and all the parts come with the car – far too extensive a list to share in this write up. An air ride shockwave system was added along with digital controller on the dash. Out back is a 12-bolt Aburn Posi rear end with 3.73 gears. Disc brakes all around the car have been added for good stopping power. There’s power steering, power brakes and a big aluminum rad to handle it all. The TH-400 3-speed automatic was also rebuilt with a 3000-rpm stall converter installed. The car came with A/C from factory and there’s a new compressor too. No box was left “unchecked” in the build on this car. It sounds absolutely killer and hauls ass. The air ride also allows normal ride height for driving, but it practically lays frame when you get to your destination. Moving outside, there was also a huge investment in paint, although that was done decades ago, and in the southern USA somewhere. It’s hard to describe how amazing the candy effect is in the stunning ruby red paint. The paint must have a black base, tons of pearl and metallic and is so vibrant it almost hurts your eyes. Depending on the light, it can reflect bright red, down to dark maroon in the shadows. Absolutely stunning paint and second to none in our showroom. For it’s age the paint is in fantastic shape. Only a minor crack on the fender and a small chip on the door are the only flaws. There’s an aftermarket cowl hood and the door handles have been shaved. Remote door poppers are working correctly and there’s interior remote buttons. The solid chrome wheels and white wall’s fit the look nicely. All of the chrome is spectacular. The interior features new real leather upholstery front and back, new custom carpets and the dash has been painted to match the exterior. Apart from a few extra gauges, the dashboard appears stock. There is however a stereo hidden in the front glove box. Factory A/C controls still work the current air conditioning. The interior is a nice place to spend some time and it’s very comfortable. The huge trunk still has a lot of room, despite a lot of custom finishing, an amplifier and dual 12-inch JL audio subwoofers added in! The stereo sounds fantastic. Besides cleaning up some extra wiring under the hood, there’s really nothing discouraging about this one anywhere you look. It’s been through the shop, some bugs and kinks worked out and now it’s ready for the open road, or out to win best paint at any car show. The car shows 93,000 miles, but with a different power plant and a 5-digit odometer, true milage is unknown.
