1966 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 2-door Hardtop coupe. Powered by a 110 HP air-cooled flat 6-cylinder with dual carbs, optional oil bath air cleaner backed (or in this case fronted) by a 4-speed manual transmission.  4-wheel manual drum brakes and manual steering, but with a car this size This car was found in a barn 20-25 years ago by the current owner. He was on a farm painting building exteriors, when the topic of an "old car" in the barn came up. Long story short, this Corvair was bought from the original couple who purchased it new at Thompson Motors in Grand Prairie AB. It was rescued with a load of pinecones stored in it by squirrels, but no mice had ever got into the car! The car was used sparingly when it was new, and the 50,760 miles is believed to be the true original milage of the car. (no documents to support this, and it does have a 5-digit odometer, but the history is known). When complete restoration was completed 2 years later, the current owner reunited the original owners, and the original salesmen from the dealer to reminisce and for a photo opportunity! (we're waiting for a copy of that picture). Since restoration 15-20 years a go, only a few hundred miles have been driven, and the car still is in immaculate condition! During the restoration of the car, the engine and transmission stayed in the car and only required minor parts and pieces, mostly to seal leaks. The engine compartment, front trunk and entire body were professionally restored in the factory L code Tropic Turquoise. The underside was coated using Endura for protection. There was one small front fender patch, but no other rust work was required. The bumpers were re-chromed, but the rest of the stainless was simply polished and reinstalled. It's all 100% factory original. Despite its age, the paint is 99% flawless! The interior is also a special-order option called "Tuxedo" with white upholstery and black accents and carpet, plus it has a fold down rear seat revealing more storage space. It's all new with the exception of the door panels. New headliner, carpet, seat covers, trunk trim and so on. Everything is in working order including the original AM radio. The original owners’ manuals are also in the new glove box. At the time of resto, new tires were installed, seat belts included. The factory jack, tire iron and spare tire are in the correct spot over top of the engine. Recent work includes a new fuel pump and two brand new restored date code correct carburetors. This is the kind of car that could go to any car show and win awards or just be a fun summer cruiser. Not incredibly fast, but lots of fun to drive and quite sharp handling for a 60's car. Turns heads everywhere! Easily one of the nicest Corvairs in Western Canada.
