Description

1970 Chevrolet El Camino SS 396. This is one special car. Being a US car, it’s not as easy to prove that all is true, but everything points to this being a true Big Block SS car right from factory. What we know: It was originally a Forest green car with dark green vinyl roof and medium saddle fabric seats but at some point, the decision was made to go with this nice medium blue and white combo with white vinyl top and metallic white seats.  Under the hood is a mean 396. The “L” on the cowl tag is believed to mean SS 396/454 but there’s no official GM documentation because the car came from the states. What we don’t know: We have yet to find out if the block is numbers matching and don’t know what series the 396 is (L35, L34 or L78). The sticker on the air cleaner says L78, but that’s not a guarantee. In every other way this car has it all! The options list is extensive with a working cowl induction hood, hood pins, Vinyl top and rally wheels. Inside is extra fancy with power windows, bucket seats and console with shifter, AM/FM radio, Deluxe interior trim, tilt steering wheel, full gauges including tach, and factory Air conditioning! The car shows 24,000 miles, but with a 5-digit odometer, true milage is unknown. There’s a brand-new owners manual in the glovebox and the jack is still in the cubby behind the driver’s seat.  The condition of the car is impressive. The paint is very nice, and the white stripes are so well buried in clear coat, they’re invisible to touch if you run your fingers over them. The box was sprayed with color matching bed liner, and the underside of the car is just as clean as the top. The interior is very nice, and the dash is crack free. Reproduction rubber floor mats are in place. Everything about this one is neat and tidy. To top it all off, it runs and drives just like it’s brand new. The choke is even set up perfectly to kick off and idle after less than a minute of warming up. A/C has not yet been tested but is believed to be in working order. The Cowl Induction works perfectly on vacuum. There are power brakes and power steering too. One sweet restoration on a car that’s hard to find and has it all!
